Each cottage is fitted with smoke detectors, has a fire blanket near the cooker and a dry powder fire extinguisher near the front door (except Willow which is by the hall door). In addition there is a spare powder extinguisher and water filled extinguisher in the Tourist Information Centre.
Please familiarise yourself with the location and use of the fire equipment provided.
In the event of a fire your first priority is to make sure that everybody is out of danger and then to telephone the emergency services.
Your location is
CLOSE THE DOOR of the room where the fire is located, this helps delay the spread of the fire.
IF A DOOR FEELS WARM, DON'T OPEN IT, there could be a fire behind it.
DO NOT GO BACK IN THE COTTAGE
IF SOMEONE'S CLOTHES CATCH LIGHT, make them lie on the floor and be rolled in blankets, rugs or thick coat. If your clothes catch fire roll on the floor to extinguish the flames.
IF YOU ARE CUT OFF BY FIRE:
Remember the smoke is as deadly as the flames. Close the door and any other openings and block the cracks with bedding etc.
GO TO THE WINDOW try to attract attention and wait for assistance.
IF THE ROOM BECOMES SMOKY stay low, its easier to breathe
THINK ABOUT MAKING YOUR ESCAPE IF THE WINDOW IS JAMMED, BREAK IT. Remove broken glass from the lower sill and cover with a blanket. DROP CUSHIONS OR BEDDING TO THE GROUND FLOOR to break your fall. GET OUT FEET FIRST and lower yourself to the full length of your arms before dropping.
In the event of a Fire please report to the
FIRE ASSEMBLY POINT
located in the BBQ Barn so that we can check everyone is safe.
DO NOT USE THE WATER FIRE EXTINGUISHER WHERE ANY ELECTRICTY IS INVOLVED
